Daniel Ha has completed a U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) field training encampment at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala. The four-or six-week summer training camp is designed to motivate, educate, and evaluate the cadets’ leadership potential to be Air Force officers, and to determine their potential for entry into the ROTC Professional Officer Course (POC). Normally, cadets between their sophomore and junior year of college attend the encampment. The training gives students their first exposure to a working Air Force environment and an opportunity to learn and apply officer leadership theory, techniques, and responsibilities. Encampment training includes leadership evaluation exercises, officer specialty orientation, survival techniques, confidence course, physical fitness, aircraft and aircrew orientation, small arms handling, human relations orientation and equal opportunity education, and study of the organization and functions of an Air Force base. Upon graduating from the attending college or university and successfully completing the ROTC program requirements, the cadet is commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. Ha is the recipient of a two year scholarship at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is the son of Moon H. and Il H. Ha of Hawkstone Court, Richland, Wash. The cadet graduated in 2007 from Hanford High School, Richland.

The son of an Albuquerque man has been deployed to support Operation Unified Response on-going in Haiti. Air Force Capt. Jeffery A. Marsh is the son of George Marsh, Cielito Lindo N.E., Albuquerque. Marsh is part of a three-person medical team from the Wright-Patterson Medical Center near Dayton, Ohio, sent to provide aeromedical evacuation support for victims of the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The team is staging from MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., with the 45th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. From there, the team flies to Port-au-Prince, picks up critically injured patients and evacuates them to hospitals in south Florida. Marsh, a 1987 graduate from Eldorado High School, Albuquerque, said many of the patients the team has evacuated have been extremely ill, having had to endure burns and crushing injuries for seven days or more prior to transport. “It’s a different mission than we encounter in Afghanistan and Iraq; nonetheless its very rewarding to be part of this humanitarian effort,” said Marsh, a 2001 graduate from the University South Alabama, Mobile. “Taking care of these patients when you fly over the country of Haiti, you see that it is completely pancaked and utterly devastated. “It’s really hectic, really stressful because of the situation in country,” Marsh said. “You normally don’t get this type of experience in a career, so I am very happy to be a part of it.” When not deployed, Marsh is a critical care nurse assigned to the 88th Air Base Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The captain has served in the military for 15 years.
